South Coast College Student Court Reporters at Chapman University Law School

Talented Court Reporting Students from South Coast College provided deposition reporting services for the Chapman University law students who were learning to take depositions. It is so great for South Coast College students to be able to develop these networking opportunities with future attorneys.  Here is what one student, Sabrina Guzman, had to say as posted on Facebook:

"Today Daniela Higuers and I  (a fellow student from my school) participated in a mock deposition as part of a Chapman University Law School class for law students learning how to do depositions. There were 11 attorneys and 1 witness.  I am proud to say that despite my nervousness, I did pretty darn well! I love getting these hands-on experiences that prepare me for when I go out in the 'real world.' I did the whole thing in realtime, and I was able to keep up for the 40 pages that it went on. At the end the depo the teacher came up to me and said, 'So you should be able to get a transcript to me by Thursday; right?' 'Sure!,' I said as I mentally recalculate my week of family, school, work, and CSR review! I got this !   — feeling determined."

Earlier in the week, Katy Magner and Kathy Alona, were also volunteers at Chapman University Law School in the City of Orange..

Career Change -- From Nurse to Court Reporter

Linda Hernandez, CSR, graduate of South Coast College, explains why she made the career change from nurse to court reporter in the following post from the Facebook Page entitled WHY I LOVE COURT REPORTING.
Linda Hernandez, CSR

I started court reporting after an 11-year career as an RN. Although I loved my first career, I think I burned out. I yearned to be more independent and have a less physically taxing job. I loved reading and writing, and I was looking to transition into a career with an emphasis on English skills and equal if not better pay as well.
A friend of mine introduced me to court reporting. When I discovered what court reporting was all about, including the potential income stream, I said, "That's for me!" I've been able to take advantage of my medical vocabulary and knowledge to make my steno writing easier and more efficient.
I have had 9 years of depo experience, five years of Official reporting and two years of pro tempore reporting. I love my career! I earn a fabulous income, and I am very independent. I love being my own boss. I love my unique skill and the prestige this career brings.
I had an English teacher who would tell his students that steno writing is so rote that a monkey could do it! Obviously that person didn't know what he was talking about. Our writing skills require much cerebral knowledge and mental stamina as well as finger dexterity. We have a vast English vocabulary, as well as a vast steno vocabulary, and a unique ability to distinguish multiple speakers. Hardly anything a mere monkey could do!
There is much more to say about court reporting. I will close by saying I love my career and am very proud to be a court reporter. Thanks to Jean Gonzalez and South Coast College staff for a great send off!

THANKS TO Cassandra Caldarella, CSR, alumna of South Coast College, who posted the Facebook Page, WHY I LOVE COURT REPORTING.

Cassandra Caldarella, CSR
Cassandra and many of the official court reporters and deposition reporters in the State of California are trying to get the word out that there is going to be a huge shortage of court reporters.  They want to do whatever they can to reach high school seniors, college graduates, and individuals who wish to change careers to take a look at the amazing career of court reporting.  It is one of the best kept career secrets.  Very few people know the kinds of opportunities available to court reporters and just what a great profession it is.  You can learn more about court reporting by clicking the link South Coast College and going to GET INFO NOW.

South Coast College Medical Assistants Striving for Excellence

THANKS to Dr. Tehmina Khan, Director of the Medical Assistant Program, for being a great role model for the South Coast College Medical Assistants.  Dr. Khan encourages Medical Assistant students to strive for excellence by taking the American Medical Technologists Examination to become Registered Medical Assistants.
'Dr. khan and Alissa French who recently passed the American Medical Technologists Examination to become a Registered Medical Assistant RMA.'
Dr. Tehmina Khan and Alissa French
At the March 2015 South Coast College Commencement Exercises at Bowers Museum, five Medical Assistant graduates were recognized for passing this examination:  Passing this examination is not required for obtaining work as a Medical Assistant in this state.  However, it does show potential employers that the graduate has achieved a high level of competency in the field.  The five who achieved recognition at that time were the following:

Diane Bogle, RMA
Sheryl Bookman, RMA
David Chow, RMA
Irene Noiboonsook, RMA
Stacy Vives, RMA

Since that time several other students have signed up to take the examination and are now preparing for the examination as we speak.

Testimonial from Molly Jones, Official Court Reporter, on LinkedIn

Thank you, Molly Jones, Official Court Reporter, for your kind testimonial regarding your experience with South Coast College.

This school is by far the best court reporting school you could ever attend. The classes that are offered at this school make you fully qualified and confident to pass tests. I loved the speed test that you are at, then you drop down to the lower speed for control, and then to the higher speed for pushing. The instructors were always helpful.
